Henri Rashid Sfeir was born in Rayfoun, Kesrwan. He married Katia Boulos who passed away in the year 1991. Henri Rashid Sfeir attended the Collège des Frères in Tripoli (Lebanon) elementary school, to move afterward to l’Université Saint-Joseph in Beirut where he finished his primary and secondary education. He chose Paris as his destination to continue his higher education, earning a bachelor’s degree in sciences, followed by a graduate degree in engineering and another bachelor’s degree in economic sciences.

He worked for the Litani River Authority in Lebanon in the year 1961. During the two years that followed, he created and established a salt factory in Lebanon. He established afterward a construction company in Lebanon as well.

Henri Rashid Sfeir entered the banking sector in the year 1973 and became the major shareholder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Adcom Bank.

He was nominated by his supporters to the parliamentary elections in 1972, as well as in 1992 and 1996. He won in the last two elections; however, the repressive authority in power at the time wanted otherwise. The story of how they cut the electric supply – including all lightings – during the ballot counting in order to alter the results is well known to the public.

In the year 1992, he created “ICN” (INDEPENDENT COMMUNICATION NETWORK), a television network, and during the same year he published a newspaper (Nida’ Al Watan); both were the subject of oppression by the repressive authorities which was against the freedom of press. They shut both the network and the newspaper by force (including the use of military force).

Henri Rashid Sfeir is best known for his relations, be it on the local or international levels, and for his moderate stances. He wrote several books that are not sold in bookstores:

1995: “Nida’ Al Kalimat”, a book defining the meaning behind selective words used in politics in his attempt to shed a light on them thus avoid their misinterpretation.

2011-2012: he published two books summing up his political views as well as his speeches and the articles he wrote. In the summer of 2012, he published a book that compiles several of his lectures and seminars.
He wrote his first novel, “Ashnar” which will be published and sold to the public in 2014.
